Evening in Mdina
Malta’s former capital, proud of its history going back 4000
years.
Melita to the Romans, Medina to the Arabs, Citta Vecchia when
Valetta became the capital, non can better describe it than its
medieval name ‘the noble city’.
It was the home of Malta’s noble families, descendants of the
Norman, Sicilian and Spanish who had settled there since the 12th
century. Impressive palaces, narrow streets, courtyards and the
cathedral make Mdina a wonderful example of an ancient walled city. |

Gala evening at the Holy Infirmary of the Order of St John
The Holy Infirmary, located in Valetta, was constructed in the
latter part of the 16th Century and has a fascinating history.
The knights of Malta combined 3 vocations: military, Christian
and medical.
For two centuries, the Great Infirmary maintained a medical
school for the study of anatomy, medicine and surgery unmatched
anywhere in Europe.
The architecture of the Infirmary is remarkable as it was the
longest unsupported hall built at the time in Europe.
The European Awards Ceremony will take place during the
evening. |

Full day excursion, jeep tour on the island of Gozo
Gozo is the other inhabited island of the Maltese archipelago.
It is on Gozo that the nymph Calypso held Ulysses for 7 years.
The see is emerald and turquoise, the high cliffs are dotted with
grottos and stone arches.
Greener, more rural and smaller than Malta, Gozo moves at a
leisurely pace, the rhythms dictated by the seasons, fishing and
agriculture. The island is covered with flowering herbs, oleander,
bougainvillea and geraniums. This day of relaxation will include
boat trips, a drive by jeep, a discovery tour of the island and
various sort of activities.
