The Council of Ministers agree on a draft bill on Internet domain names

This bill goes along with the ruling issued by the Milan Court of 3/02/2000, and aims at applying the trademark regime to the Internet domain names. It forbidds the use of an Internet domain name if the user is not the legal owner of the name or has received consent from the rigtholder to use this name. It has five main targets : it is not possible to use famous names of private or legal person, it is forbidden to use company names or copyrighted names, as names identifying public bodies and geographical cities, and to use gender names which can create confusion. A National Registrar depending on the National Research Council will also be created.
